DDay is the commemorative celebration of the Normandy landings of June 6, 1944, also known as “Operation Overlord”. This historic event was one of the most significant of the Second World War, seeing the liberation of the Normandy coast from Nazi occupation. It also marked the start of the Western Front offensive against the Germans.

Today, the Normandy landings symbolize courage and international cooperation.That’s why it’s celebrated every year.In fact, it will reach its 80th anniversary in 2024, the opening of which has already begun in 2022 with the 80th commemoration of the Raid de Dieppe.At present, preparations for the DDay are well underway. The first visual and logo for the event were unveiled in June 2023. Their colors and designs have been designed to symbolize Peace, Freedom and Reconciliation.The logo will also be used to design various souvenir products such as T-shirts, caps and all kinds of goodies.

The Landing Museum at Utah Beach is a historical curiosity that is sure to please World War II enthusiasts. Its very location is full of significance, as it was erected on the site where American troops landed on June 6, 1944.

Inaugurated in 1962, it now contains the remnants of this momentous past. On this unmissable visit, you’ll discover a fine collection of objects relating to the Battle of Normandy, including :

The Caen Memorial is a must-see when camping at Utah Beach. The temporary and permanent exhibitions are designed to retrace the history of the Second World War.

There’s also a cinema where documentary films about the period are shown. And if that’s a bit too boring for your children, take them for a walk in the Jardin de la Paix (Peace Garden) located on the same site.
